A Fairfax County jury awarded $2.4 million to the parents of 15-year-old Leeyan Hanjia Yan, one of two Oakton High School students killed in a June 2022 crash as they walked away from school. The civil case placed responsibility on the unlicensed 18-year-old driver and his father, who had given him a new BMW.

Tysons continues to face elevated office vacancies. CBRE’s latest quarterly data puts the submarket’s vacancy rate at 26%, down from a recent peak of 27.2% in the third quarter of 2024. Herndon has Northern Virginia’s highest rate at 29.8%.

CBRE’s figure exceeds CoStar’s 19.7% estimate used by the Tysons Community Alliance. The alliance has highlighted recent office-building purchases and increased employee visits as encouraging signs.

A new Virginia historical marker was unveiled June 29 at the Little Hunting Park Pool and Tennis Club in Bucknell Manor. It commemorates the 1969 U.S. Supreme Court case Sullivan v. Little Hunting Park, which helped pave the way for ending segregation at community recreational clubs nationwide.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout Monday, with some storms capable of producing heavy rain.
