Twenty-three Fairfax County Public Schools teachers have earned or renewed certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
Eight teachers achieved certification for the first time:
- Carol Dalmet, Madison High School
- Hannah Brown, Bailey’s Elementary School
- Lianna Clarke, Bailey’s Upper Elementary School
- Patrick Noel, Colvin Run Elementary School
- Kristin Bauersfeld, Terra Centre Elementary School
- Melissa Johnson, Lake Braddock Secondary School
- Heather Hall, Westgate Elementary School
- Rachel Von Elmendorf, Holmes Middle School
Another 15 teachers renewed their certification for an additional term:
- Laura Chami, Madison High School
- Emily Keffer, Herndon Elementary School
- Megan Stanley, Cooper Middle School
- Jyothsna Vallampati, Madison High School
- Mary Wolfe, Herndon High School
- Heather Jung, Hollin Meadows Elementary School
- Julianne Braden, Laurel Hill Elementary School
- Frances Clarke, Keene Mill Elementary School
- Bethany Layton, Sangster Elementary School
- Rachel Morris, Laurel Hill Elementary School
- Darren Myzak, Lake Braddock Secondary
- Julianne Trimble, Bull Run Elementary School
- Lauren Kinne, Woodson High School
- Alaina Taylor, Hayfield Secondary School
- Christa Voegtle, Hayfield Secondary School
FCPS began its National Board Certification program more than 20 years ago. Since then, over 500 division teachers have earned the credential.
The school system ranks among Virginia’s top five for both newly certified National Board teachers and current certification candidates. It is also among the top 30 school districts nationwide by number of National Board-certified teachers, with more than 300 active credential holders supporting its schools and students.
About 75% of the division’s National Board-certified teachers work directly with students, while others have taken leadership positions across FCPS.
Both initial certification and renewal require teachers to assemble portfolios documenting high-quality instruction, differentiated teaching and continued alignment with the Five Core Propositions of Accomplished Teaching in their certification areas.
Teachers pursuing or renewing certification can receive free professional development, tuition reimbursement and individualized assistance through the Office of Professional Learning’s Academy Course program.
