Older adults navigating “solo aging” can learn practical ways to build connections, reduce isolation and protect their mental health during a free Alexandria event on Feb. 19.
“Strategies for Addressing Solo Aging, Social Isolation, and Mental Health for Seniors” will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Beatley Central Library, 5005 Duke Street.
Senior Services of Alexandria and At Home in Alexandria, a local senior village, are bringing together experts to discuss the anxiety and fear of loneliness that can accompany aging alone. The program will explore ways older adults can develop supportive friendships, remain involved in the community and make solo aging a more positive experience.
Scheduled speakers include Steve Gurney of the Positive Aging Community and Rhonda Williams, supervisor of Alexandria’s Older Adult Clinical Services Team. Attendees will also receive information about local resources that help seniors stay connected.
The event is free. Reservations can be made by emailing events@seniorservicesalex.org or calling 703-836-4414, extension 110.
