Alexandria residents have until April 20 to weigh in on draft principles and goals that will shape the city’s Housing 2040 Master Plan.

The Office of Housing said community feedback will help officials finalize the plan’s principles, goals and recommendations. The comment form is available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, Dari and Pashto, with translated versions of the draft materials also offered in those languages.

Officials presented the proposals during a March 18 community meeting and open house at Patrick Henry K-8 School. The meeting presentation and informational boards cover financial tools, housing preservation, homeownership and tenant issues. A summary of findings from the Housing 2040 Survey is also available with the meeting materials.

Alexandria adopted its current Housing Master Plan in 2013 to guide housing policies and strategies through 2025. With that plan ending this year, the city is working with residents and local partners on an update extending through 2040.

Beginning with a housing needs assessment, the planning process will set new affordability goals and examine policies, programs and tools intended to support people who live and work in Alexandria.
