The Alexandria Commission on Aging is accepting nominations for its annual Excellence in Aging Awards, recognizing people and organizations whose work has improved the lives of older Alexandrians.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 2. Honorees will be recognized at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the Vola Lawson Lobby at City Hall, 301 King Street.

The awards are open to individuals of any age who have served older residents or made significant contributions to programs, projects and issues affecting Alexandria’s senior community.

Four honors will be presented:

  • The Annie B. Rose Lifetime Award recognizes an individual who has served seniors for at least 10 years.
  • The Lois Van Valkenburgh Excellence in Aging Award honors a resident with at least one year of service to seniors.
  • The Excellence in Aging Award for an Organization recognizes a group that has made an outstanding contribution to Alexandria seniors.
  • The Public Service Award honors a city employee whose work has helped make Alexandria a more livable community for people of all ages.
