Ten Alexandria student-athletes earned recognition for their academic and athletic accomplishments during the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club meeting Jan. 15 at the Old Dominion Boat Club.

ASC President Ryan Fannon presented the organization’s Student-Athlete of the Month honors to Colleen Breslin of Youth Recreation for basketball; Episcopal High School students Ben Edmonds for basketball, Campbell Shelby for tennis and Princess Akojenu for basketball; Bishop Ireton High School students Amirah Anderson and Ripp Kodi for basketball; St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School students Riley Jacobs and Naheema Goin for basketball; and Alexandria City High School students Tarik Sesay and Victoria Patrick for basketball.

The meeting also brought together eight varsity basketball coaches from the city’s four high schools for a roundtable discussion. They spoke about coaching teenagers, the benefits of playing multiple sports and the role competition plays in making high school athletics engaging for players, schools and the community.

Participating coaches were Dwayne Bryant and Kesha Walton of Bishop Ireton High School; Tyrone Sally and Ariel Gonzalez of Alexandria City High School; Katrina Reed and Jim Fitzpatrick of Episcopal High School; and Calvin Crenshaw and André Hunter of St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School.
