Alexandria’s top high school student-athletes received more than $52,000 in scholarships during the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club’s 68th annual awards banquet.

The May 28 event drew 250 people to the Westin Hotel Old Town and honored students from Alexandria City High School, Bishop Ireton High School, Episcopal High School, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School and the Alexandria Recreation Department. Students were recognized across more than 40 sports categories.

The club awarded 21 scholarships totaling $52,500. Twenty graduating seniors each received a $2,500 Marion and Rick Moon Scholarship, while another student received the club’s first $2,500 vocational scholarship.

Alexandria City High School recipients were Caroline Block, Kaitlin Elizabeth Chittick, Michael Coulby, Virginia “Ginny” Coulby, Josephine Damico-Lassman, Allison Goetz, Kalina Janevski, Hannah Mikolop, Daniel Organek and Braelynn Tomanio.

Bishop Ireton High School recipients were Drew Madden, Kate Hare, Kendra Harris, Michael Bobrowski, Therese Forrer and Cecelia Wright.

Campbell Shelby represented Episcopal High School. Claire Hanley, Carter Stimson and Loui-Jamar Goin represented St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School.

Chelsea Bolanos of Alexandria City High School received the inaugural vocational scholarship.

The banquet also recognized several community members. Bud Mayo received the Gene Bode Hall of Fame Award, Tamika Coleman received the William Hershberger Civic Award and Jerry Whitmire received the Past President Award. Kesha Walton was named Coach of the Year, and Jeanne Jacob was selected as Sportsman of the Year.

The club’s monthly meetings are scheduled to resume Sept. 17 with High School Coaches Night, featuring the head football coaches from Alexandria’s four high schools.
