April Cage will become Fairfax County Public Schools’ assistant superintendent for Region 2 on July 1, overseeing schools in the Falls Church, McLean and Justice High School pyramids.
Cage has worked in the school division for more than 25 years. Her previous positions include classroom teacher, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal and executive principal. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher.
As executive principal for Region 6, Cage helped lead 24 schools serving approximately 24,000 students. She worked with principals, central-office employees, families and community members on instruction and school improvement.
During her tenure in Region 6, Grade 8 enrollment in Algebra I increased by 23.2% while the course’s pass rate remained above 85%. The region also recorded gains in English-language development among multilingual learners and reductions in chronic absenteeism.
Cage additionally worked on improving Grade 3 reading proficiency and narrowing achievement gaps affecting students with disabilities, Black students and economically disadvantaged students.
She was named FCPS Outstanding Principal of the Year in 2023.
