Arlington’s 55+ Programs are offering a busy schedule of fitness classes, cultural presentations, museum trips, films, games and workshops through early March.
Activities are held in person at 55+ Centers unless marked virtual. Participation generally requires a 55+ Pass, which starts at $20 annually. Registration is available at registration.arlingtonva.us or by calling 703-228-4747.
Events through February
The Library of Virginia will present a virtual program on its digital records at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20. Outreach specialist Peter North will explain how to access historical records and archives. Registration number: 912400-19.
A coral reef crochet project designed to raise awareness of climate change is scheduled for 4 p.m. Feb. 20 at Lubber Run 55+ Center. Participants should bring yarn and crochet hooks, though some supplies will be available. Basic skills are helpful, and a volunteer will provide limited instruction. The session is drop-in.
Eurogames will take over Walter Reed 55+ Center from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 20. Players will rotate through strategy-focused tabletop games such as “Wingspan,” “Ticket to Ride” and “Settlers of Catan.” Registration number: 912600-03.
The 55+ Travel group will take a one-hour guided tour of the College Park Aviation Museum on Friday, Feb. 21. The cost is $19 for Arlington residents and $22 for nonresidents. Registration number: 902502-08.
Community Arts Programmer Jim Halloran will lead a virtual look behind the scenes and beneath the surface of three professional artists at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21. Registration number: 912302-08.
Aurora Hills 55+ Center’s book club will discuss Erik Larson’s “The Demon of Unrest” at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24. The meeting is drop-in.
“Every Body,” a documentary following three intersex people from childhood into adulthood, will be screened as part of Pride 365 at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Walter Reed 55+ Center. Registration number: 912804-15.

The 55+ Travel group will visit the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum on Wednesday, Feb. 26, to see Sir Isaac Julien’s “Lessons of the Hour” and the “Felix Gonzalez-Torres: Always to Return” exhibition. March programs and excursions
The 55+ Travel group will attend the bio-musical “Heartbreak Hotel” at the Performing Arts Center in Fredericksburg on Sunday, March 2. A meal is included. The cost is $104 for Arlington residents and $120 for nonresidents. Registration number: 902503-01.
Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists will explain how to clean up a yard in an attractive, environmentally responsible way that supports wildlife. The program begins at 1 p.m. Monday, March 3, at Walter Reed 55+ Center. Registration number: 913401-01.

Stay Active and Independent for Life, or SAIL, will offer free classes focused on strength, balance and fitness. Technology consultant and former George Mason University professor Barbara Fillip will discuss everyday possibilities for generative AI at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. A new Memory Café will open from 1:30 to 3 p.m. March 6 at Walter Reed 55+ Center, providing a supportive setting where people with dementia and family caregivers can participate in dementia-friendly activities together. Arlington Adult Care and library staff will lead the program. It is open to all ages, and no 55+ Pass is required.
