Bakeshop opened its largest bakery yet on June 20, bringing cupcakes, macarons and popular breakfast sandwiches to 421 Maple Avenue East in Vienna.

The bakery and cafe renovated the former home of Skorpios Maggio’s Greek Family Restaurant, which closed in June 2024. Founder Justin Stegall said Bakeshop had long considered Vienna for its next Virginia location but struggled to find a suitable retail space until the restaurant site became available.

The larger building provides more customer seating and gives the kitchen staff additional room to work comfortably, Stegall said.

Founded in Arlington’s Clarendon neighborhood in 2010, Bakeshop expanded to Falls Church in 2019. A Georgetown shop opened in 2021 but has since closed, making Vienna the company’s third current location and its third in Virginia.

Stegall said he allows each shop to develop around customer demand. Early business in Vienna suggests breakfast will play a major role, with the shop’s breakfast items and sandwiches already proving popular.

More menu options are planned. Stegall hopes to introduce lunch sandwiches served on freshly baked bread, biscuits or croissants.

For now, the Vienna cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. while hiring continues. Once fully staffed, it will likely remain open until 8 p.m.

Bakeshop arrives amid a burst of new dessert businesses in Vienna. Shipley Donuts recently opened at 256 Maple Avenue East, across from Texas Donuts, which debuted in December. Whistler’s Ice Cream Extraordinaire also began serving French custard at the Village Green shopping center earlier in June.

Stegall said Vienna residents have given the bakery a warm reception and that its employees have enjoyed working at the new location.
