Bakeshop expects to open its new Vienna location in early April, bringing cakes, cookies, macarons and other treats to a Maple Avenue space that has been vacant since 2024.
The Arlington-founded bakery is completing a longer-than-expected buildout at 421 Maple Avenue East, the former home of Skorpios Maggio’s Greek Family Restaurant. Bakeshop had initially hoped to open sometime in 2025.
General manager Monica Garcia said the company is pleased with the renovated space and eager to begin baking and meeting customers in Vienna.
Founder and owner Justin Stegall launched Bakeshop in Arlington’s Clarendon neighborhood in 2010 after selling his cupcakes through local coffee shops. Although the business arrived during the gourmet cupcake boom, its menu grew to include cakes, macarons, cookies, pies and breakfast sandwiches.
Bakeshop expanded to Falls Church in 2019 and later opened in Georgetown. The Georgetown location has since closed.
Garcia previously said the bakery selected Vienna because its team had long appreciated the town’s community atmosphere.
The Maple Avenue property became vacant when Skorpios Maggio’s closed on June 13, 2024. Owners Chris and Sherry Maggio said they were leaving the business to focus on their family and health.
The family had been working to transfer the restaurant to new owners, but that deal ultimately collapsed.
