Bank of America plans to transform the former Uno Pizzeria and Grill at Gatehouse Plaza into a branch with a drive-through ATM, a proposal that requires approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
County zoning staff accepted the property owner’s special exception request for review on Feb. 25. The application identifies Bank of America as the new tenant at 3058 Gate House Plaza.
The bank would retain the vacant restaurant’s brick facade and existing footprint. Uno closed in January 2025 after 25 years at the shopping center.
Plans call for removing the former restaurant’s outdoor dining terrace and an adjacent wood addition to accommodate the drive-through. The facility would offer ATM access only, rather than full teller service.
The proposed 10-foot-wide drive-through aisle could hold as many as four vehicles, including three stacking spaces. A separate 14-foot-wide bypass lane would allow drivers to travel between the north and south sides of the property without using the ATM lane.
The project also includes new pedestrian features. Silver Companies, whose affiliate owns the shopping center, plans to add sidewalks and crosswalks at the drive-through entrance and exit, along with a landscaped, 5-foot-wide sidewalk beside the bypass lane. Another crosswalk and sidewalk would link the new drive aisle to existing sidewalks along Arlington Boulevard.
Bank of America expects the branch to serve about 200 customers daily and employ roughly five people during operating hours. The location would open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It would close on Sundays.
The application estimates that replacing the restaurant with a bank would reduce traffic by 317 weekday trips per day.
The special exception request will be reviewed alongside a comprehensive plan amendment authorized by supervisors in October. Gatehouse Plaza is currently limited to four drive-through businesses, and all four slots are occupied by Starbucks, Panda Express, Sunoco and Wendy’s. The Wendy’s is expected to be replaced by Raising Cane’s in winter 2027.
