Bed Bath & Beyond is returning to Fairfax County through a new partnership with The Container Store rather than reopening its former standalone locations.

The home decor retailer’s merchandise will be introduced at all 98 Container Store locations nationwide, including stores in Tysons at 8459 Leesburg Pike, Reston at 1851 Fountain Drive and Springfield at 6412 Springfield Plaza.

The Container Store launched a “Store Changing” sale on April 24, discounting nearly all merchandise by 30% to clear space for the new products. More than 1,400 items must be sold, according to the company’s website and signs at the Tysons store.

Bed Bath & Beyond is also offering a coupon for 20% off one item that customers can activate in stores or online.

“This is a reset with purpose,” Jen Pape, The Container Store’s senior vice president of stores, said in a news release. She said the company is streamlining some categories to create room for Bed Bath & Beyond products and offer customers a more complete selection for the home.

Bed Bath & Beyond acquired The Container Store for $150 million in early April as part of an effort to expand its merchandise following years of cost reductions and a 2023 bankruptcy filing.

Its longtime Tysons location closed in February 2022. The chain’s other Fairfax County stores followed a year later. Only four physical Bed Bath & Beyond locations remain, all in the Nashville area.

The transformation of Container Store locations into combined businesses is expected to begin in May and could take several months. The redesigned stores will pair The Container Store’s organization products, expertise and in-home services with an expanded selection of Bed Bath & Beyond merchandise.

Several former Bed Bath & Beyond spaces in Fairfax County have already found new tenants. Floor & Decor replaced the Bailey’s Crossroads store, Burlington moved into the Mount Vernon location, and Bob’s Discount Furniture took over the Springfield space.

The former Tysons and Fairfax Towne Center stores remain vacant, although county permit applications indicate Aldi may be considering the former Fairfax Towne Center location.
