Virginia’s government now includes two members of the Bulova family after David Bulova joined Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s cabinet and Gretchen Bulova took his former seat in the House of Delegates.
Spanberger selected David Bulova, then the Democratic delegate for the 11th House District, as secretary of natural and historic resources on Dec. 11.
Five days later, Gretchen Bulova won a firehouse primary to become the Democratic nominee to replace her husband. She secured the seat in the Jan. 13 special election, receiving 68 percent of the vote against Republican Adam Wise.
Gretchen thanked voters for their strong support and said she was excited to represent the district. She also praised Spanberger’s cabinet and described the couple’s new positions as the beginning of a new chapter for Virginia.
David was sworn in at the Governor’s Mansion in Richmond on Sunday, Jan. 18. Gretchen took her oath of office the following day, before the new General Assembly session began.
Their children, Alex, Josie and Grayson, attended both ceremonies, along with David’s mother, former Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bulova, and Gretchen’s parents, Janet and Charlie Reimer.
Sharon Bulova called the appointments good news for Virginia and said she was proud of both David and Gretchen.
