High home prices did little to cool demand in Burke last year, with properties in the 22015 ZIP code spending a median of just six days on the market.
The mostly residential Fairfax County community ranked first among Northern Virginia’s 20 hottest ZIP codes in a list based on Bright MLS data covering Dec. 1, 2024, through Nov. 30, 2025. The analysis weighed home sales, the gap between listing and closing prices, and the time properties remained available.
Burke recorded 487 sales during the period. Its median closing price reached $696,500, about 3.2% above the median asking price of $674,975.
Other communities posted more transactions without taking the top ranking. Fair Oaks and Greenbriar, represented by ZIP code 22033, placed third with 501 sales.
Burke’s appeal includes larger homes and access to restaurants, stores and recreational facilities. Nearby communities include Fairfax Station, West Springfield and Kings Park West.
A Long & Foster real estate agent told the magazine that many of Burke’s roughly 44,730 residents have lived there for years or even decades. That longevity has helped create an established community while limiting the number of homes coming onto the market.
Although Burke remains largely car-dependent, residents have access to neighborhood pools and county parks, including Burke Lake. Royal Lake and Lake Accotink are also nearby.
Fairfax City, George Mason University’s Fairfax campus, Fair Oaks Mall and Fairfax Corner are within reach as well.

Kingstowne experienced increased homebuying after the COVID-19 pandemic as people left Washington, D.C., and Arlington in search of more space while retaining access to transit and urban amenities.
In western Fairfax County, Fair Oaks, Centreville and Clifton offer varied housing, a somewhat more rural setting and proximity to Dulles International Airport, Interstate 66 and Route 28.
The Vienna and Reston ZIP codes draw buyers with access to Tysons jobs and shopping, Reston Association recreational facilities, the Washington & Old Dominion Trail and downtown Vienna.
