CD Cellar will open two hours early at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 12, as collectors descend on Falls Church for Record Store Day’s limited-edition releases.
The shop, located at 105 Park Ave. near the State Theatre, encouraged customers seeking rare titles to arrive early—and asked shoppers to keep the scramble friendly.
A Northern Virginia destination for music collectors for 32 years, CD Cellar is among the largest record stores in the Mid-Atlantic. Its double storefront carries new and used vinyl ranging from $1 oldies to rare albums priced around $400.
The selection spans hip-hop, folk, jazz, movie soundtracks and vintage blues, along with CDs, cassettes, DVDs and Blu-rays.
CD Cellar also received national radio attention ahead of the event. Reporter Jackson Sinnenberg told WAMU host Tamika Smith that he planned to visit the store Saturday, highlighting it as a one-stop destination for physical media.
This year’s Record Store Day releases include vinyl albums and 7-inch singles from David Bowie, Taylor Swift, Motörhead, jazz trumpeter Kenny Dorham and Washington’s Thievery Corporation. Some recordings will be available publicly for the first time.
Established in 2008 to celebrate independently owned record shops, Record Store Day is held each April and again on Black Friday. Participating stores receive special releases pressed for the event, drawing fans who often line up early for the most sought-after titles.
