Students facing financial challenges across the greater Washington region can find free prom attire at Centreville High School from Friday, March 13, through Sunday, March 15.
The annual Prom Dress Shop is open to any area student, not only those enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools. Students must present a valid student ID or another form of school identification to choose from hundreds of dresses at no cost.
Centreville High School marketing students and participants in the Fair Oaks Classroom on the Mall program organize the shop. The project allows students to apply visual merchandising lessons by transforming classroom space into a retail-style prom shop.
Marketing teacher Miranda Schick oversees the effort, which is intended to make promwear accessible regardless of a student’s financial circumstances. The project also gives participating students practical experience in communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
The shop is in the modular classroom building near the stadium in Centreville High School’s student parking lot, outside Door 12.
The shop will be open during these hours:
- Friday, March 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.
- Saturday, March 14, from 2 to 5 p.m.
- Sunday, March 15, from 1 to 4 p.m.
