The Cherrydale Farmer’s Market returns to Dorothy Hamm Middle School on Vacation Lane on April 4, launching its spring season with an Easter egg hunt, sidewalk chalk and bubbles drifting among the vendor stands.
The egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. with 200 eggs hidden around the market. Most contain candy and stickers, while several golden eggs hold certificates donated by vendors for items at their stands.
Market manager Stephen Cunningham said the bubbles give the event a playful advantage over other nearby egg hunts.
“We have the advantage of bubbles,” Cunningham said. “Even adults like the bubbles.”
This year’s market includes 15 vendors located within 125 miles. Returning businesses include Anna’s Twist, which sells empanadas, tropical drinks, soups and sorbets, and Baguette Republic, offering artisan breads, muffins, baguettes and croissants.
New arrivals include LaCalderia with freeze-dried beef broth; Ttu with fermented pickles, kimchi and sauerkraut; and Arlington micro-bakery the Cookie Bar. Its selections include citrus sugar cookies, mini orange carrot cake cookies and brown butter chocolate chip cookies.
Cunningham, who has managed the market since at least 2016, said preparations for the season began when vendor applications opened in December. Organizers sampled prospective vendors during February and March, balancing competing applications to avoid duplicating offerings such as coffee.
The Cherrydale Farmer’s Market operates from April through November, every market day from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.
