Culmore Community Library in Falls Church closed Jan. 17, 2026, for major HVAC repairs and other upgrades expected to keep the building inaccessible for about a year.
The work will affect the library building, parking lot and grounds. A tentative reopening is planned for January 2027, with progress updates to be shared through the library’s newsroom and social media accounts.
Customer holds assigned to Culmore will remain paused during the closure unless patrons select another branch. Their positions in the request queue will be preserved. Patrons can use their library accounts to change pickup locations or reactivate suspended holds.
Materials may be picked up from or returned to any Fairfax County Public Library branch. Nearby alternatives include Thomas Jefferson Library, Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library and George Mason Regional Library. E-books, audiobooks and online databases also remain available around the clock through the library website.
Culmore employees have been reassigned to other locations, though some programming will continue nearby at Culmore United Methodist Church, 3400 Charles Street in Falls Church, beginning Feb. 18.
Preschool Playdate will run Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering self-guided stories, songs and playtime for babies through age 5 and their caregivers. No registration or tickets are required, but doors will close when the room reaches capacity.
The Be Curious after-school program will be held Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4 p.m. School-age children can participate in STEM challenges and maker activities without registering, subject to room capacity.
An English Conversation Class will meet Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m., with no registration required. Additional services and programming will be listed on the library system’s events calendar.
