County education officials have extended the deadline for five community seats on the Comprehensive Planning and Development Committee to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2026. The original deadline was January 30.

The committee supports capital planning and facility maintenance efforts for Fairfax County Public Schools. It consists of five elected board members and five community appointees and generally meets monthly for about two hours.

Applicants must live in Fairfax County, cannot be current FCPS employees, and must remain independent of the school system’s day-to-day management. They should understand FCPS facilities policies and procedures.

Officials are seeking candidates with expertise in architecture, construction, engineering, facilities management, capital financing, permitting and procurement, land-use planning, development, or related subjects.

Applicants must submit an introductory cover letter, a committee membership application with written answers to the statement-of-interest questions, and a résumé outlining relevant experience and qualifications.

The five appointees will serve staggered terms ending in June 2027, June 2028, or June 2029.
