Two crashes have claimed lives in Fairfax County, while Juneteenth brings modified transit schedules across the region.

An adult male pedestrian died after being struck near Leesburg Pike and Munson Hill Road in Seven Corners. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. A second adult male pedestrian was also struck but was not injured.

In Lorton, a motorcyclist has died from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle collision Wednesday, June 17, at Richmond Highway and Mims Street. Police preliminarily said alcohol was not believed to have contributed to the crash, while speed remained under investigation.

Fairfax Connector is operating Holiday Weekday Service on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. Metro is also offering more limited rail and bus service Friday before increasing frequencies over the weekend for Pride events in Washington, D.C.

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger announced Wednesday that the state has joined the Reproductive Freedom Alliance. The coalition of governors supports measures including legislation, ballot referendums and efforts to stockpile mifepristone, a drug used for abortion and miscarriage management.

Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champion figure skater Ilia Malinin returned to Westbriar Elementary School on June 15. The alumnus, nicknamed the “Quad God,” became the first skater to land a quadruple axel in competition.

Fairfax County and Inova officials told Reston residents Tuesday that the proposed Reston Town Center North rezoning would create a framework for future redevelopment. It would not approve final designs for individual buildings.

Residents have approved a Fairfax County plan to install three speed humps on Fairway Drive. The RTAP Fairway Drive Task Force said Supervisor Walter Alcorn’s office notified it on June 15 that the traffic-calming proposal had passed within the ballot area.

Falls Church officials are considering doubling the city’s car-tax exemption threshold. Vehicles assessed at $1,500 or less are currently exempt from the tax of $4.80 per $100 of assessed value. A proposal presented by Commissioner of Revenue Tom Clinton and city staff would raise the threshold to $3,000.

Friday’s forecast calls for clouds followed by gradual afternoon clearing and a high near 83 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 30%. Skies should be mostly clear Friday night, with a low around 64 and west winds of 7 to 11 mph, including gusts up to 18 mph.
