President Donald Trump signed bipartisan legislation Thursday funding most of the Department of Homeland Security and ending the longest shutdown in the agency’s history. The package, which received final House approval shortly before it was signed, does not fund immigration enforcement operations.
A 28-year-old man from the Fort Worth, Texas, area was arrested Monday, April 27, after allegedly trying three times since Friday to enter CIA headquarters in Virginia. He was charged with trespassing and released on bond under a condition barring him from returning to the CIA or the other government facility involved.
Homeowners in Fairfax County and Arlington are generally expected to pay more in property taxes as assessments rise. Their newly adopted budgets take different approaches, however: Fairfax County lowered its real estate tax rate, while Arlington increased its rate.
Gov. Abigail Spanberger has signed two bills allowing faith-based organizations and other tax-exempt nonprofits to develop affordable housing on their property without going through the rezoning process. The legislation takes effect Jan. 1, 2027, and expires Jan. 1, 2031, unless a future General Assembly renews it.
Herndon defense technology contractor HawkEye 360 Inc. plans to raise as much as $416 million through an initial public offering. According to an April 27 regulatory filing, the company intends to offer 16 million shares at $24 to $26 each. The business, valued at $2.4 billion, could begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange within days or weeks, though no official debut date has been announced.
Ebbitt House, a Clyde’s Restaurant Group concept expected to open at Reston Station in August, offered an early preview during the annual New Kitchens on the Block event at Mess Hall in Washington, D.C. The gathering gave visitors a first taste of several forthcoming restaurants, cafés and bars.
Spring Farm Day returns to Frying Pan Farm Park on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature spring farm animals, hands-on activities, live demonstrations and family-oriented entertainment.
