Drivers across the D.C. region can receive free windshield wipers and installation during Wiper Week, a road-safety initiative running April 5-11 at locations in Washington, Maryland and Virginia.
The campaign aims to improve visibility for drivers while protecting passengers, bicyclists and pedestrians. Organizers say the region’s recent harsh winter exposed wipers to snow, ice and salt, potentially reducing their effectiveness ahead of the spring rainy season.
On Monday, April 6, Metro Motor technicians will visit participating area schools to surprise teachers and faculty with free wipers and installation. The company is coordinating the visits with school administrators.
Any driver can register in advance for free wipers at the D.C. DMV Inspection Station on Saturday, April 11. The giveaway will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lane 8 at 1001 Half St. SW in Washington. Advance registration is required.
Drivers who receive repair or maintenance work at any of Metro Motor’s 18 locations from Monday, April 6, through Saturday, April 11, will also qualify for a free pair of installed wipers. There is no minimum purchase, but a service such as an oil change, tire rotation or other vehicle work must be performed.
Appointments are encouraged because organizers expect high demand, though they are not required. Metro Motor is leading and sponsoring the initiative.
