Fairfax County officials will hold a virtual public meeting April 7 to discuss a proposed community parking district that would restrict large vehicles, trailers and watercraft from parking on residential streets across part of the Dranesville District.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. and will be hosted by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation and the Dranesville District Supervisor’s Office.

The proposed district would cover an area south of Route 7, bordered by Loudoun County to the west, the Hunter Mill District to the east and the Sully District to the south. It would appear in two sections around the Town of Herndon.

Under Section 82-5B of the Fairfax County Code, the restrictions would apply at all times to boats, boat trailers, motor homes, camping trailers and other trailers or semi-trailers, whether attached to another vehicle or not.

Parking would also be prohibited for vehicles with at least three axles; vehicles rated at 12,000 pounds or more; vehicles designed to carry 16 or more people, including the driver; and vehicles of any size used to transport hazardous materials. School buses regularly used to carry students would be exempt from the weight and passenger-capacity restrictions.

Restricted vehicles could still park while work is being performed at a home within the district. They could also remain for up to 48 hours while being loaded, unloaded or prepared for a trip.
