The Trump administration reportedly offered to release funding for a rail tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey if Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer agreed to rename Dulles International Airport and New York City’s Penn Station for President Donald Trump. Schumer declined the proposal, according to two people familiar with the request.
A Virginia bill intended to prevent localities from imposing criminal penalties on people experiencing homelessness has been set aside. A House of Delegates subcommittee referred the measure to a housing commission for further review. Del. Joshua Cole, the bill’s patron, hopes to revive it in 2027.
One person suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle crash Sunday in Tysons. Fairfax County police responded shortly after 6:30 p.m. to the 1800 block of Tysons Boulevard, where investigators found a car had overturned after hitting an ice bank.
Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with several smash-and-grab burglaries at Fairfax County phone stores. Surveillance footage showed a man using a rock and hammer to break into stores and steal merchandise. Most of the targeted businesses were along the Richmond Highway corridor, though police said a Metro by T-Mobile on Arlington Boulevard in West Falls Church was also hit.
A lane on Worldgate Drive will close Tuesday, Feb. 10, for crane installation related to Peraton’s new office building. Fairfax Connector routes 921 and 952 will be affected, while bus stops 3824 and 3825 will temporarily close. Passengers can use stop 6356 instead. The work is not connected to BXP’s planned redevelopment of vacant offices along Worldgate Drive.

The move was banned from 1977 until 2024, in part because of safety concerns. French skater Surya Bonaly nevertheless performed one at the 1998 Olympics, knowing it would cost her points.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies, a high near 48 degrees and a south wind of 3 to 7 mph. Conditions will become mostly cloudy overnight, with a low around 35. The south wind will strengthen to 7 to 9 mph before shifting to the northwest after midnight.
