Early voting begins Friday, Jan. 16, at the Fairfax County Government Center for the Braddock District school board special election. Democratic-endorsed candidate Tom Dannan and independent candidate Saundra Davis are competing for the seat.
Saturday is also the final day to vote early in the Jan. 20 special election for Virginia’s 17th House District.
Virginia health officials have reported the state’s first pediatric death of the flu season from complications associated with influenza. To protect the family’s privacy, officials disclosed only that the child was 4 or younger and the death was reported in Virginia’s eastern region.
In Pimmit Hills, an affiliate of Brookfield, Wisconsin-based MLG Capital acquired PeachTree of McLean on Peach Orchard Drive. Public records show the deal closed in mid-December for $100 million, above the property’s assessed value of $81.7 million. Bozzuto announced in early January that it had assumed management of the complex.
A repeal of Virginia’s right-to-work law appears unlikely in 2026, with representatives of both organized labor and the business community expressing doubt at a recent forum. State Sen. Jennifer Carroll Foy, a Democrat representing District 33, has nevertheless introduced legislation that would effectively remove state restrictions affecting unionization.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved an expansion of Phillips Programs on Jan. 13. The nonprofit operates an Annandale private school serving students with behavioral health challenges and developmental disabilities.
McLean-based Positive Development Inc. has secured $45 million in new funding, six months after raising more than $50 million. The autism therapy provider plans to use the latest investment to accelerate its national expansion. Its local growth includes planned centers in Fairfax, Woodbridge and Springfield, along with new Maryland locations.

Applications are open for retail vendors and exhibitors interested in Fairfax County’s Earth Day celebration, scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston. The application deadline is Feb. 23, while registration for food vendors has already closed.
