Fairfax County Public Schools will mark Black History Month with a free public celebration featuring local authors, student performances and reflections on Black history and culture.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodson High School, 9525 Main St. in Fairfax. The FCPS Chief Equity Office is hosting the program.
Built around the theme “From the Threads of Our Past to the Fabric of Our Future,” the evening will recognize the lasting contributions of Black history and culture while looking toward a future grounded in equity and excellence.
The program will include speakers, reflections, a student choir and dance performances. Etta Willson, Linneall Naylor and Rondia Prescott, three authors of “Black Communities of Fairfax: A History,” will take part in a panel discussion.
Woodson students will also share passages from the book throughout the event.
