Fairfax County is asking residents to weigh in on a five-year transportation plan that could direct an estimated $3.9 billion toward more than 300 priority projects.

The proposed fiscal year 2025-2030 Transportation Priorities Plan includes interchanges, road widening and construction, active transportation projects, transit planning studies and traffic-calming initiatives. The county’s transportation plan website provides a list of proposed projects and investments.

Funding is expected to come from a mix of federal, state, regional, local and private sources. The specific funding streams may vary by project and change during the plan’s five-year period.

Fairfax County Department of Transportation Director Gregg Steverson said the plan provides a foundation for coordinating long-term investments amid competing local and regional interests and complex funding considerations. He said it reflects the county’s goals of improving mobility, safety and connectivity.

Residents may submit comments online beginning July 2 through the county’s Public Input website, which includes a prerecorded overview of the proposal. Feedback may also be provided by telephone or U.S. mail using instructions posted on the site.

Comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23.

Transportation staff will also hold a virtual community input session at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, through Microsoft Teams. The session will include an overview of the plan followed by a question-and-answer period. The meeting link and telephone call-in information are available on the Public Input website.
