The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority Commission has selected George D. Thomas as its next president and CEO as the county targets growth in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, national defense, advanced computing and space commercialization.
Thomas will begin his tenure in August, succeeding Victor Hoskins, who is departing after nearly seven years in the role.
“George Thomas represents the next generation of economic development leadership,” FCEDA Commission Chair James Quigley said.
Thomas brings more than 25 years of experience spanning economic development, technology, infrastructure, investment attraction, workforce development and public-private partnerships.
Most recently, he served as president and CEO of Connected DMV. Under his leadership, the organization grew from a volunteer coalition into a multimillion-dollar enterprise focused on building emerging industry clusters and strengthening global competitiveness.
Thomas previously worked as a partner at IBM and held senior positions at other global firms. His work included technology commercialization, smart cities, infrastructure modernization, economic development and the formation of industry clusters.
“Fairfax County stands at the center of extraordinary economic and technological change,” Thomas said. “Advances in artificial intelligence, quantum, energy, aerospace, defense, national security, and other key industries are creating new opportunities for innovation, investment, and growth.”
