Fairfax City has been asked to return $3.5 million in state concessionaire funding after canceling the George Snyder Trail project.
The Virginia Department of Transportation formally requested repayment in an April 6 letter. Mayor Catherine Read said during an April 14 work session that the city was communicating with the state about the repayment process.
In Alexandria, the National Park Service began another phase of resurfacing work on the George Washington Memorial Parkway on Thursday. Crews are repaving the roadway and replacing pedestrian-crossing medians between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and First Street. Earlier work covered the section between Spout Run Parkway and Interstate 395 in Arlington.
A proposed pause on data center development is dividing Democrats. Virginia Sen. Mark Warner called the moratorium proposal “idiocy,” while Mo Seifeldein, a former Alexandria City Council member challenging Rep. Don Beyer in Virginia’s 8th District, has backed a pause.
Langston Hughes Middle School in Reston now has a vending machine that dispenses free books. The RoSigle Foundation installed the machine as part of its efforts to promote literacy and educational equity.
Love & Honey Fried Chicken is preparing to open at 6544 Little River Turnpike in Lincolnia’s Pinecrest Plaza. Renovations are underway in the former Hot Lola’s space, where that restaurant had operated after opening in February 2023.
McLean-based Rilian has raised $17.5 million to expand its artificial intelligence cybersecurity products for the defense sector. The funding came from 8VC, a venture capital firm founded by Palantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale. Rilian plans to hire more engineers, increase marketing and continue developing products for the U.S. military and allied countries.
A baby from Ghana continues an extraordinary journey that began in Reston. Akosua was born at Reston Hospital on Oct. 26, 2025, weighing just 1 pound, 1 ounce. Her mother, Afua, was 23 weeks pregnant when she traveled more than 5,000 miles from Ghana to attend her cousin’s wedding in the United States last fall.
