Georgina Aye, principal of Fairfax High School, has been named the 2026 Washington Post Principal of the Year, recognizing her work to expand academic opportunities and build stronger connections with families.
Under Aye’s leadership, enrollment increased significantly in Advanced Placement, dual-enrollment and honors courses. Fairfax High also earned its first Purple Star School designation for supporting military-connected students and families.
Aye’s community outreach extends beyond the regular school day. She personally teaches evening English classes for parents and caregivers, helping them understand the education system and advocate for their children.
“Dr. Aye is a principal whose dynamic energy and innovative vision have fundamentally transformed the culture at Fairfax High School,” Superintendent Michelle C. Reid said. Reid also credited Aye’s focus on student well-being, family partnerships and thoughtful leadership during routine and complex situations.
Aye graduated from West Virginia University and Johns Hopkins University. She was previously named Fairfax County Public Schools’ 2025 Outstanding Principal.
