Fairfax County residents had a one-week window to apply for several affordable rental housing waitlists, including units with up to three bedrooms across the county.
The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority opened applications at 8 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2025, for Project-Based Voucher units in privately owned and county-owned properties. The application period was scheduled to close at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, June 8.

Applicants could submit forms through the Fairfax County Housing and Community Development website. Instructions were available in English and Spanish.
People needing assistance could call 703-246-5100 or visit the housing authority’s office at 3700 Pender Drive in Fairfax between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applications were to be selected randomly for placement on the waiting lists. When a unit became available, applicants would be contacted and screened for eligibility based on household income, household size and the size of the unit.
Under the Project-Based Voucher program, participating households pay a portion of the rent, up to 35% of adjusted gross household income. The housing authority pays the remainder directly to the property owner. Participants cannot receive other federal housing-assistance subsidies.
