Fairfax County Public Library honored 23 volunteers for their longevity and exceptional service during the 2026 Star Volunteer Awards.
The library and its Board of Trustees recognized the award recipients at an April 8 meeting at George Mason Regional Library, held in observance of National Volunteer Month.
Volunteers play a major role across the system’s 23 branches, which serve more than 1 million people. During the previous year, more than 1,000 volunteers contributed over 90,000 hours while also serving as ambassadors for the library in their communities.
Three volunteers were recognized for reaching 3,000 hours of service:
- Elaine Varner, Dolley Madison Library
- John Mayer, George Mason Regional Library
- Jann Taylor, Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library
Seven volunteers were honored for completing 1,000 hours:
- Judy Carter, Centreville Regional Library
- Barbara Kramer, Chantilly Regional Library
- Richard Miller, City of Fairfax Regional Library
- Susan Newman, Dolley Madison Library
- Amanda Fowler, Richard Byrd Library
- Elizabeth Nelson, Richard Byrd Library
- Jennifer Henderson, Thomas Jefferson Library
Thirteen others received awards for exceptional service:

- Keri Hatch, Herndon Fortnightly Library
- Linda Zeoli, Herndon Fortnightly Library
- Krish Kabduwal, Kingstowne Library

- Patricia Wilson, Kings Park Library
- Sophie Burrell, Oakton Library
- Denise Chen, Oakton Library
- Jim Christoper, Thomas Jefferson Library
- Mary Tropea, Thomas Jefferson Library
- John Hewes, Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library
- Lisa Pittman, Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library
