A 69-year-old Fairfax man has died after a two-vehicle crash at Monument Drive and Fairfax County Parkway in Fair Oaks.

Officers responded to the intersection at 1:22 p.m. Friday, July 11. A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2024 Hyundai Tucson was traveling east on Monument Drive when the vehicle went through a red light and struck a 2012 Honda Accord.

The Accord’s driver, Stephen Rhodes, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died.

Alcohol does not initially appear to have contributed to the crash. Detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are still investigating whether speed was a factor.
