Fairfax County Public Schools plans to open a new high school in western Fairfax County for the 2026-27 school year after acquiring a nearly 33-acre campus this summer.
The former King Abdullah Academy property includes 355,000 square feet of modern educational space, along with multipurpose halls, libraries, study rooms, fine arts facilities and athletic areas.
FCPS estimates that buying the existing campus will save approximately $280 million compared with purchasing land and constructing a new school to meet growing demand in the western part of the county.
The division plans to develop new courses for the school while continuing broader efforts to expand and improve course offerings across FCPS. Officials say the campus will support forward-looking instruction intended to prepare students for a rapidly changing global economy and careers that do not yet exist.
The Fairfax County School Board discussed programming and potential names for the school during an October 7 work session. The project is scheduled to appear as new business at the board’s October 23 meeting.
