Fairfax County Public Schools plans to open a new high school in western Fairfax County for the 2026-27 school year after acquiring a nearly 33-acre campus formerly occupied by King Abdullah Academy.
The purchase is expected to save approximately $280 million compared with buying land and constructing a new school to meet growing demand in the western part of the county.
The campus includes 355,000 square feet of modern educational space, along with large multipurpose halls, libraries, study rooms, fine arts facilities and athletic areas.
FCPS intends to develop new courses for the school as part of a broader effort to improve and expand offerings across the division. The district says the campus will support forward-looking instruction designed to prepare students for a rapidly changing global economy and careers that do not yet exist.
The School Board discussed the school’s programming and potential name during an October 7 work session. The project is scheduled to appear as new business at the board’s October 23 meeting.
