The Fairfax County School Board has extended the application deadline for five community seats on its Comprehensive Planning and Development Committee to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026. The previous deadline was Jan. 30.
The committee helps guide the School Board’s capital planning and facility maintenance work. It includes five School Board members and five community appointees and meets monthly for approximately two hours.
Applicants must live within Fairfax County, cannot be current Fairfax County Public Schools employees and must remain independent of FCPS’ day-to-day management. They should understand FCPS facilities policies and procedures.
The board is seeking expertise in architecture, construction, engineering, facilities management, capital financing, permitting and procurement, land-use planning, development or related fields.
Applications must include an introductory cover letter, a completed committee member application, written responses to statement-of-interest questions and a résumé outlining relevant experience and qualifications.
The five selected community members will receive staggered terms ending in June 2027, June 2028 or June 2029.
