Fairfax County Public Schools has earned the highest recognition awarded in governmental accounting and financial reporting for its work documenting how the school division manages public money.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada presented FCPS with its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The honor covers the school system’s comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year that ended in June 2025.
The association gives the certificate to public organizations whose financial reports demonstrate what it describes as a constructive “spirit of full disclosure.” Reports are evaluated on how clearly they communicate an organization’s financial position and activities.
FCPS said the recognition reflects its commitment to responsible stewardship of public funds and transparent communication with the Fairfax County community.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional organization serving approximately 21,000 government finance professionals in the United States and Canada. FCPS makes its annual financial reports and additional information about school system finances available through its financial reporting webpage.
