Fairfax County residents can help decide which proposed sidewalks, crosswalk upgrades and other pedestrian and bicycle projects should receive funding.
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation has prepared preliminary project lists for each district as part of a broader effort to improve safety, accessibility and connections for people walking, biking and using other non-motorized transportation.
The Board of Supervisors set a goal in fall 2021 to identify and invest $100 million in active transportation infrastructure by 2027. An additional one-time investment of $25.43 million approved last fall brought the county’s total contribution since 2021 to $82.12 million.
Residents can review district project lists and maps on the county’s Active Transportation Prioritization webpage, then submit an online survey. Feedback is due by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Transportation officials will also hold two virtual community meetings to explain how eligible projects were selected and hear residents’ local priorities.
