Fairfax County Public Schools seniors in the Class of 2025 earned an average SAT score of 1183, beating Virginia’s average by 71 points and the global average by 154 points.

The county’s average rose five points from the Class of 2024. Evidence-Based Reading and Writing increased two points to 596, while Mathematics climbed three points to 587.

Fairfax students exceeded the corresponding Virginia and global averages in both sections. Virginia averaged 567 in reading and writing and 544 in math, compared with global averages of 521 and 508.

The calculations use each student’s most recent result from the 2016 revision of the SAT and are based on College Board public reporting available as of Sept. 30, 2025.

Fairfax also recorded a higher testing participation rate. About 65.7% of county seniors took the SAT, compared with 51.3% of seniors across Virginia.

Superintendent Michelle Reid credited educators for providing strong learning opportunities and congratulated students for their work, saying the results reflected the strength of a Fairfax County education.

The school system offers SAT School Day at no cost to all enrolled seniors, a program it says helps support participation. The 2025 testing day was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 8.
