Fairfax County Public Schools students in grades 9, 10 and 11 can apply to become the 2026 student representative to the School Board.
The representative speaks for FCPS students in a nonvoting, advisory role but is not a School Board member. Student delegates on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will elect the representative. Applicants do not need to be current council members.
Eligible students must attend FCPS and live in Fairfax County or Fairfax City. Applicants should review FCPS Policy 1802 for details about the position and its responsibilities.
Candidates must submit a written application by Monday, February 23, 2026. They must also complete a 30-second video statement by March 16. A recording link will be emailed to candidates on March 2. Both components are required to qualify for the election.
The virtual primary election will take place on Zoom on April 23. Attendance is optional, and candidates will receive the results by email.
Those who advance must attend the in-person general election during the school day on April 30 at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Additional election details will be sent to candidates by email.
The application is available through a Google Form and requires an FCPS Google account. Students can also hear about the position from current student representative Faith Mekonen.
