Fairfax County Public Schools is asking students to bring laptops, chargers, iPads, books and notebooks home on Friday as potentially significant winter weather approaches.
Schools have also been directed to send home projects and reading materials that students can complete independently if snow disrupts classes next week.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid emphasized Thursday, Jan. 22, that FCPS is not planning to shift to remote learning. Bringing materials home will instead give students access to online resources and optional activities during any weather-related closures or delays.
Families can find age-appropriate learning ideas on the FCPS Snow Day activities webpage. Closure and delay information will be distributed through email, text messages, FCPS social media accounts, the FCPS app and local media.
Reid said she will work with the district’s weather team throughout the weekend as officials consider whether changes to the school schedule are necessary.
