Falls Church police are investigating the suspicious death of a 78-year-old woman found inside a hotel room at 205 Hillwood Ave.

Officers went to the hotel at approximately 10:10 a.m. July 14 to conduct a welfare check on a guest, according to police. The room’s occupant, identified by police as Kyle Gosweiler, 37, of Falls Church, initially denied them entry.

After gaining access to the room, officers found the woman inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released her name because they were awaiting notification of her next of kin.

Gosweiler was charged with concealing a dead body and obstruction of justice. The charges reported by police do not accuse him of causing the woman’s death.

As of reports published July 20 and 21, Gosweiler was being held under bond at the Arlington County Detention Center. Police did not provide the amount or other terms of the bond.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia was conducting an autopsy to determine the woman’s cause and manner of death. Those findings remained pending in the supplied reports.

Police said the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death were still being investigated. “The death has been classified as suspicious based on factors at the scene,” the department said. Police did not describe those factors in the supplied information.

The department also said “the preliminary investigation indicates that there is no ongoing threat to the community.”
