Falls Church City Public Schools named Kevin Mehm its new director of facilities, effective March 17, 2025.

Mehm brings experience in facilities management, real estate, operations and security across public education and the private sector. He joins the division from KIPP DC, where he has worked since 2015 and most recently served as senior managing director of real estate and facilities.

In that position, Mehm managed a portfolio covering eight campuses, 1 million square feet and facilities serving 7,300 students. His responsibilities included strategic planning, capital projects, security initiatives and daily operations.

Mehm previously held leadership roles with Prince George’s County Public Schools, overseeing projects involving maintenance, security and emergency preparedness in a district with 125,000 students across 205 schools. Earlier in his career, he worked in strategy, operations and brand management at Lenovo and Russell Corporation.

A Falls Church City resident, Mehm earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he was a Dean’s Scholar. He also holds bachelor’s degrees in business administration and psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Student advocacy leads to accessible playground path

The school division will also celebrate a new accessible pathway at Oak Street Elementary School’s playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025.

The pathway was installed after advocacy by a student who uses a wheelchair and sought equal access to the playground equipment. The addition is intended to allow students with mobility challenges to participate more fully in playground activities.

The ceremony’s theme, “All are welcome. All can play,” reflects the school’s focus on inclusion and equal access.

The event is open to the community and will take place at Oak Street Elementary School, 601 S. Oak Street in Falls Church.
