Falls Church City Public Schools will announce and welcome the district’s 10th superintendent during a special School Board meeting on Monday, May 5.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Learning Stairs in Meridian High School. Board members will formally vote on the appointment before the incoming superintendent delivers brief remarks.

The new superintendent is scheduled to take office July 1, 2025, succeeding Dr. Peter J. Noonan, who is retiring after eight years leading the district.

Noonan announced in August that he would retire at the end of the school year to spend more time with his family. His departure concludes a 33-year career in public education, including 14 years as a superintendent.

The appointment follows an extensive search process. A public reception will be held immediately after the meeting, and students, families, employees and other Falls Church residents are invited to attend.
