A sedan driver died after a collision with a pickup truck on Pleasant Valley Road in Chantilly on Tuesday. The driver had been taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the pickup driver was also hospitalized. Police continue to investigate the crash.
A memorial honoring the 67 people killed in the Jan. 29, 2025, mid-air collision near Reagan National Airport was dedicated Monday at Rivergate City Park in Old Town North. Families, friends and regional leaders attended the ceremony. The city and the office of U.S. Rep. Don Beyer helped install the memorial.
Virginia election officials are still holding some voter registration applications from people with felony convictions while awaiting further state guidance. A federal court had ordered the state to stop rejecting applicants for convictions outside 11 felonies recognized under common law in 1870, including arson, manslaughter and murder.

First responders met American Airlines Flight 5085 at Reagan National Airport on Tuesday afternoon after a service dog relieved itself inside the aircraft. Several passengers aboard the flight from Nashville reportedly became ill following the incident, which occurred after 2 p.m.
Virginians for Marriage Equality launched a statewide campaign Monday in support of a November constitutional amendment referendum. The proposed amendment would remove Virginia’s dormant ban on same-sex marriage and require the commonwealth to recognize marriages regardless of sex, gender or race.
Springfield resident Kevin Sherwood is preparing for a 753-mile boat race to Bermuda. He planned to put his boat, the “Bay Retriever,” into the water Wednesday after completing repairs, then depart at noon Friday for the trip south through the Chesapeake Bay.
John Kane has raised nearly $2 million from individuals and family offices for Smart Cyclers Inc., a new office-furniture recycling company. Kane, previously the head of a now-defunct office moving business, hopes to raise $6 million and is considering three possible locations between Manassas and Lorton for the company’s first operating base.
