A driver died and two passengers were injured Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Old Keene Mill Road near Tiverton Drive in Springfield.

Fairfax County police said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Both adult passengers were hospitalized, including one with life-threatening injuries.

In a separate Springfield crash, one person was rescued from a vehicle and taken to a hospital Tuesday. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. to southbound Interstate 95 near the Interstate 395 split, where they found several vehicles involved and one person trapped.

Herndon police, meanwhile, announced Tuesday morning that Cristian Vasquez Alvarenga had been taken into custody near Elden Street and Alabama Drive. He was wanted on charges including abduction, carjacking and assault following an alleged altercation at his home. Police thanked community members who reported seeing him.

Falls Church will test a sip-and-stroll program from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Called Little City Sips, the pilot will let participants carry alcoholic drinks in branded cups while visiting participating restaurants and enjoying entertainment around part of West Broad Street and Park Avenue.

Volunteer fire departments are also looking for new members. The International Association of Fire Chiefs has launched a recruitment campaign aimed at a new generation of volunteers through social media and other marketing. Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire Department Chief Shawn Stokes said finding prepared volunteers has become increasingly difficult over the years.

Two notable Northern Virginia properties have hit the market. Carriage House Wineworks, an operating boutique winery at 40817 Browns Lane in Waterford, is listed for $1.99 million. In McLean, the 2.4-acre Bella Vista estate at 1159 Crest Lane is asking $11.9 million. The riverfront property sits along the Potomac River on an area known as McLean’s “Gold Coast.”

In Annandale, the Mason District Arts Council will present “America the Beautiful at 250,” a free afternoon of music and poetry, on June 13 at John Calvin Presbyterian Church. The event is part of the Mason Arts 250 series, which began last Sunday with a free NoVA Lights Chorale concert.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high near 88 degrees, with a 50% chance of precipitation and storms most likely between 2 and 7 p.m. The chance of rain falls to 30% overnight as skies partially clear and temperatures drop to around 72.

And in McLean, a North American toad was recently spotted at Turkey Run Park.
