Fairfax County Public Schools athletes closed the 2026 spring season with five team titles and 15 individual or relay championships in Virginia High School League Class 6 competition. Five teams and 13 individual or relay entries also finished as state runners-up.

The championship teams were Westfield High School in boys soccer, Robinson Secondary School in girls outdoor track and field, Madison High School in girls lacrosse and boys tennis, and Langley High School in girls tennis.

The individual and relay VHSL champions were:

  • Olivia Jones, Robinson Secondary School — girls 400-meter dash
  • Hadley Vanek, Woodson High School — girls 800-meter run
  • Petra Gruendel, Robinson Secondary School — girls 1,600-meter run
  • Abigail Mesfin, Oakton High School — girls 3,200-meter run
  • Amelia Cole, Lake Braddock Secondary School — girls 100-meter hurdles
  • Woodson High School — girls 4x800-meter relay
  • Apria Smith, Chantilly High School — girls high jump and triple jump
  • Nicholas Bailey, West Springfield High School — boys 400-meter dash
  • Oakton High School — boys 4x100-meter relay
  • Dillon House, Edison High School — boys long jump
  • Josh Vargas, Madison High School — boys tennis singles
  • Caleb Vargas and Lucas Albisu, Madison High School — boys tennis doubles
  • Gabriela Hernandez, Madison High School — girls tennis singles
  • Gabriela Hernandez and Katie Hilton, Madison High School — girls tennis doubles

Madison High School earned four team runner-up finishes in softball, boys lacrosse, boys soccer and girls tennis. Langley High School placed second in boys tennis.

The individual and relay runners-up were:

  • Olivia Jones, Robinson Secondary School — girls 200-meter dash
  • Aya Ryan, South Lakes High School — girls 800-meter run
  • Caroline Elliot, South Lakes High School — girls 1,600-meter run
  • Allie Horner, West Springfield High School — girls 3,200-meter run
  • Olivia Wallace, Lake Braddock Secondary School — girls 300-meter hurdles
  • South Lakes High School — girls 4x800-meter relay
  • Haley Trieu, Robinson Secondary School — girls pole vault
  • Alex Guthrie, South Lakes High School — boys 200-meter dash
  • West Springfield High School — boys 4x400-meter relay
  • Blake Jackson, South Lakes High School — boys long jump and triple jump
  • Christopher Hwang, Chantilly High School — boys shot put
  • Barrett Pullen, Woodson High School — boys discus throw

FCPS crews also claim top honors

Although crew is not governed by the VHSL, FCPS rowers collected another group of state honors through the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association.

Robinson Secondary School won the women’s Division 2 VASRA Trophy Point Championship, while South County High School captured the men’s Division 2 Trophy Point Championship.

Championship boats represented:

  • Justice High School — women’s 1-4X
  • Robinson Secondary School — women’s 3-4+
  • Madison High School — women’s N-4+
  • Langley High School — women’s 3-8+
  • Langley High School — men’s Fr-8+
  • South County High School — men’s N-8+
  • Oakton High School — women’s Jr-4+
  • Robinson Secondary School — women’s 2-4+
  • South County High School — men’s 2-4+
  • Robinson Secondary School — women’s Jr-8+
  • Langley High School — men’s Jr-8+
  • South County High School — men’s 1-4+

West Springfield High School’s men’s crew placed second in VASRA Division I. Langley High School earned runner-up honors in women’s Division I and men’s Division II, while Justice High School’s women’s crew finished second in Division III.

  • McLean High School — men’s N-4+
  • McLean High School — women’s 3-8+
  • West Springfield High School — men’s 3-8+
  • Woodson High School — men’s Fr-8+
  • McLean High School — women’s N-8+
