FCPS leaders unanimously adopted the advertised fiscal 2026 budget during their Feb. 20, 2025, regular meeting, advancing a plan focused on stronger academic standards, competitive employee compensation and responsible use of taxpayer dollars.

Superintendent Michelle Reid also presented the 2024-25 report for Strategic Plan Goal 3, which addresses academic growth and excellence. Members approved the report.

The division uses regularly scheduled reports to monitor progress across its five strategic goals. Each review includes a written draft, a work session and a public presentation of the final report. The reports examine completed work and results while outlining activities intended to improve weaker areas during the coming year.

Reid also delivered an Academic Matters presentation on career and technical education.

Seven community members spoke during the public participation period. Student representative Megan Sawant presented student matters.

The consent agenda included the Jan. 9 meeting minutes, additional advisory committee appointments, creation of a Mathematics Basal Instructional Resource Review Committee, the January 2025 employee separation report and several contracts.

The meeting began at 7 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. The Daniels Run Elementary School Singers, directed by Michelle McCarten, performed the national anthem. The Justice High School Chamber Choir, directed by Miranda Lansberry, performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Members approved proclamations recognizing Custodians and Food and Nutrition Services Employees Appreciation Month, along with School Bus Driver, Bus Attendants and Crossing Guard Appreciation Month.

Later, Mr. Dunne delivered a Comprehensive Planning and Development Committee report, Ms. Lady reported for the Governance Committee, and Ms. St. John-Cunning presented a Public Engagement Committee update. Reid then presented superintendent matters before the meeting concluded with board matters.

The meeting adjourned at 10:26 p.m. Upcoming meetings included a work session scheduled for 10:30 a.m. March 11 and a regular meeting set for 7 p.m. March 13.
