Fairfax County Public Schools is entering the second phase of its comprehensive boundary review, giving families, employees and community members their first opportunity to examine potential boundary scenarios before summer break.

The review is intended to address student population growth, changing school capacity, student health and wellness, and evolving community needs.

During Phase 1, FCPS gathered public input at 12 Community Boundary Review Meetings and through email and an online platform. Thru Consulting collected and analyzed the feedback, which helped guide the development of possible boundary scenarios.

The Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee has since met several times to examine the public comments, relevant data and early draft scenarios. The committee will continue providing feedback as the maps are revised.

FCPS moved the next round of meetings up from the summer, creating a tight schedule around school activities. Officials said the sessions will provide early community feedback for the next version of the draft maps.

A customized online Boundary Explorer Tool will allow the public to see how the potential scenarios could affect school boundaries.

Eight hybrid meetings are scheduled:

  • Thursday, May 15, 6:30–8 p.m. at Oakton High School
  • Friday, May 16, 6:30–8 p.m. at Robinson Secondary School
  • Monday, May 19, 6:30–8 p.m. at Herndon High School
  • Friday, May 23, 7–8:30 p.m. at Lewis High School
  • Wednesday, May 28, 7–8:30 p.m. at Annandale High School
  • Thursday, May 29, 6:30–8 p.m. at Whitman Middle School
  • Friday, May 30, 6:30–8 p.m. at Chantilly High School
  • Friday, June 6, 6:30–8 p.m. at Glasgow Middle School

Participants may attend in person or through Zoom. Childcare will be offered for in-person attendees, while language interpretation and translation will be available as needed. Registration links are expected to be released soon.

Another series of community meetings is planned for the fall. FCPS has also posted an updated timeline for the remainder of the review, although dates may change as the process continues under School Board Policy 8130.
